A House of Representatives panel yesterday asked Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to provide documents related to a $195 million waterways contract within 72 hours.
The Committee on Public Petitions chaired by Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (PDP, Abia) was dismayed that despite several meetings with relevant stakeholders on the contract and reminders for documents to be provided, there was no success.
“We’ve been demanding for this document, and this is about the eighth hearing on this issue. In fact, if the contractual documents and agreements could not be produced within the next 72 hours, we’ll be forced to close this matter and make our recommendations to the House,” Abonta said.
Some members of the panel were of the view that the matter be closed immediately, but Nkem-Abonta pleaded with his colleagues to wait until the expiration of the three day ultimatum.
Daily Trust had in December reported that the panel would quiz both Amaechi and his defence counterpart, Mansur Dan-Ali over the contract awarded to an Israeli company.
